Nap time Diary

I must admit, nap time to me is truly a sacred and holy hour (if I'm lucky) where all of the children simultaneously have their eyes shut and are not making any sound beyond their sweet little snores and heavy breathing. I don't always get simultaneous nap time and when I do I don't take it without gratitude and with a mad hustle. I find myself drawn between napping myself, working on my to-do list which is always longer than I care to admit, and creating something marvelous. In all honesty if I can pull it off, I often try to side do something creative.

My favorite recent project is a quilted table top runner that I found on Pintrest. This is only my second real quilt project, my first was a quilt that I made at a weekend retreat with a few friends, this is my first independent project. At this point I only have my top done for my quilt, but I think it is going relatively well. My major flaw so far is that I misread the pattern and cut more fabric than I actually need, so I am going to end up making a few similar table runners, which is fun to think about sending them off to friends.

I haven't been doing a ton of crocheting, however, I have been working on a blanket for a new little guy in our lives. It is slow going and I am not making a ton of progress, blanket making in the spring/summer is never a motivating project. However, I am determined to get it done, I do have some road time coming up that should aid in the progress of this blanket.

Another project I am starting to work on is I am working to improve my embroidery skills. I have seen some pretty epic projects by friends and I long to be able to embroider better. I am sure more on this will follow.

I also have been working on some hair clips for my daughter, who some how has become magically obsessed with always having some type of hair clip or bow (or bowtique as Lucy would say - thanks to Minnie Mouse). So I have created some felties to put in her hair in hopes of a little variation away from the constant bow. Never in a million years did I think my daughter would be obsessed with bows, hair clips, and headbands.

My final work in progress, which this always seems to be ongoing, is my love for Shutterfly and creating shutterfly books. I am not terribly behind, but I do have some catching up to do and I'd like to get those caught up before I get so far behind I am not motivated to work on them. Slowly but surely I am getting caught up on them.

What are you working on?
What projects bring you life currently?

Lucy's First Year Photobook

This past year I have been rather intentional about keeping up on Lucy's first year photobook, she also got a photobook for her baptism. I knew that there was ZERO chance that I would actually be able to keep up with a "real" scrapbook so I have opted to go with Shutterfly {which I adore}, and if I didn't do it as I went there was NO chance it would happen later. Just about every Sunday night I would update her book making this less of a task and it only took a few minutes each night. I FINALLY just got around to proof reading it and all that good stuff AND shutterfly had a phenomenal sale on books making now the time to order.

I have another book already started for her second year. I can't believe my baby is already one and not a baby any more. Hello Toddler Years! {Lord, have mercy}

In addition to this photo book, I also make one for our family each year. This year I have also begun backing up our videos to youtube and burning them to a dvd. I am afraid that something will happen to our phones and camcorder (yes, we actually still have one and use it) - so I like to back that stuff up.

On Real Mom Confessions

I am linking up with Anna at Girl With a Blog and her On Real Mom Confessions. This could quite possibly be one of my most favorite link ups I have participated in a long time. I think this maybe come a weekly link up for me.

Where to begin is a better question?!

1. I ordered new khaki pants {I would prefer my yoga pants, sweats, or gym shorts} for work this week in a size larger than my pre-pregnancy pair. Right before Lucy I had managed to go down one size and my khaki pants were trashed {I need dress pants for work} and I have sort of been working on getting back into my pre-Lucy khaki pants, but let's face it. It isn't happening as quickly as I'd like and I couldn't stand putting my maternity pants on one more time. So I bit the bullet and ordered a pair larger than I would like and put the maternity pants in the bin downstairs. It was so appealing to pull out the maternity pants with the glorious elastic waist as soon as I got pregnant and now it has long since lost it's appeal. I ordered new pants.

2. I am anal retentive on every weekend updating my daughter's  and our family's shutterfly books {there is absolutely no way I could actually make a real fancy scrapbook happen} every Sunday night. Why? Because I am living in some sort of a sleep deprived stupor and am afraid I won't remember these days. I appreciate the late night snuggles and am attempting to savor these days as I know they don't last long, I dream and pray for the day that she will sleep through the night.

3. I make freezer meals. I hate the process of making a ton of meals every month, it takes up pretty much my entire weekend to prep for the cooking, the actual cooking and assembling of the meals, and the clean up {I am fairly certain every pot, pan, bowl, and spoon I own is dirty at the end of the endeavor} there is absolutely NO chance that I would be able to cook for our family after work. When I get done with work at the end of the day I have ZERO desire to do more than either eat what is in the crockpot or merely throw something in the oven {I love both crockpot cooking and pulling meals out of the freezer} - two weeks ago before making 22 meals for our family my husband and I had successfully had: cereal, oatmeal, Wednesday night lenten meal, frozen pizza, & oatmeal for dinner. I won't even begin to tell you what we had taken to work and called it lunch. Let's just say we ate more oatmeal and cereal than any two humans should in a week.

At the end of each day I as I crawl into our bed and in the few briefs seconds between leaning over to lay down and the second my head hits the pillow {because really that is all the longer it takes me to fall asleep} I rejoice that: the dog is fed, my husband knows he is loved, my daughter is fed & loved, and God's grace showers over us.

Walt Disney World January Trip Photobook

Last year with Lucy being born I HATE to admit how far I had gotten behind with my photobooks, I HATE catching up with photobooks. I enjoy doing them when I am up to date, but once I get behind I literally DREAD doing them. I don't want to do them, so after last year (I blame Lucy for getting me behind) and having to play MASSIVE catch up I am trying super hard to NOT get behind this year, so far so good. I am up to date with our Marshall family 2015 book and Lucy's first year book is up to date for the most part. The calendar in Lucy's book could use a little bit of work, but that part is easy because I have a calendar that is hanging in her room that I also write everything on so that piece is just filling in the details.

Anyways, I managed to get an 8 by 11 book done for our January trip to Walt Disney World and thought I would share. {I got my book free due to coke rewards points - BONUS}

{2014 Photobook}

On my list of goals was to get my 2014 photobook done within the first week of 2015!
IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
Sometimes these goals seem ridiculous and far fetched however, I seriously couldn't be more excited to have gotten it done while Shutterfly was having their great sales.

I am NOT a scrapbooker nor do I have the patience to become one, or the supplies, or the the attention to detail to make that happen. I do however love shutterfly because it requires no supplies, I don't print unnecessary pictures, I don't have to have stickers, and I can work for five minutes or five hours.

On Documenting Life

Growing up I remember my mom's countless photo albums and my brother and I from time to time would take this old photo albums off the shelves and page through them, laughing at the way our parents looked before they had us, at photos of my brother and I in our younger years, looking at pictures of family members who had passed away. We would look at pictures and remember our favorite toys and the clothes we would wear, our parents would sit and tell us stories of the people in the pictures and the stories behind the pictures.

My parents also were the proud owner of a big ol' VHS tape recorder and they proudly taped our concerts, our programs, and a little bit of everything in between. We loved watching these movies as kids and every once in a while they still get pulled out (however, now I am thinking we should get them converted to DVD as no one has a VHS player any more).

I have always enjoyed journaling and have a box filled with old journals and talk about a trip down memory lane when I go back and read of trips and junior high, of sporting events and decisions about college. I love having these pieces of history. I continue to this day to journal a bit (not NEARLY as often as I would like, but from time to time my journal gets pulled out and I write). I also have this line a day 50 year journal that I bought a couple years ago - I LOVE it and the freedom to write two sentences a day. Now that I have written in it EVERY DAY (which actually surprises me) for a couple years it is fun to look back at what was happening on that day a couple years ago. It really is a treat.

I take more pictures than I care to admit, and they all go on shutterfly. Every year I make a 12 by 12 photo book for our year. Throughout the year I will sometimes create a smaller 8 by 11 photo book for a special trip or event that just has WAY more pictures than I can allot for our yearly book. I make most of my pages on shutterfly, however, if you have an iPhone, I HIGHLY recommend that you get the Project Life App by Becky Higgins. I bought it when it was on sale for $0.99 however, after having it and using it some I would DEFINITELY buy it full price, it is worth every penny.

The Project Life app allows you to take photos from your phone and create BEAUTIFUL scrapbook pages that I can upload to shutterfly and just drop into my books. PAGES done effortlessly.

I also love shutterfly because I never have to print pictures unless I want to put them in frames and the albums are nice and thin so they don't take up copious amounts of space on my shelves. They also give me a small piece of mind because God forbid a fire or something ever takes our house I would not worry about losing these albums because they are saved online and I can just reprint the books (while that would be expensive it would be worth every penny to me).

Now that we have Lucy of course it raises all sorts of questions as to how I want to document her. This is new territory for me and I am certain I have a lot to learn about documenting the life of a kid. I want to strike a balance between crazy over the top documenting and wishing I had more saved and preserved. I want to live in the moment and not always be behind the camera as well as being able to savor the memories to watch later.  I also don't want to set the standards craaazy high so that if we ever have more kids it is ridiculous to recreate for them as well.

Shortly after Lucy was born I did buy a small digital camera that we carry with us in the diaper bag and occasionally break out and make short videos. Marc and I also have iPhones that we make videos on from time to time. Currently I am compiling two movies on iMovie (I love Mac) one of what I am calling our mobile movies (which includes videos that our daycare provider has sent us) and one of the movies off the video camera. Our iPhone videos do get uploaded to youtube so grandparents and those not near us can see them.

For Lucy, I am hoping (fingers crossed and lots of wishful thinking) to create one 12 by 12 photo book for each year of her life in addition to our family album. I have also created a book for her NICU days and her Baptism (which I hope to page through with her and be able to tell her about what happened that day and show her who was there and.....). I also have a journal for her that I started writing in while I was pregnant with her. I hope to record the funny thing she says, as well as some stories about her, and just my hopes and prayers for her. I am not certain when I will give it to her, but someday she can have it.

Who do I actually think will want to see my photobooks, read my journals, watch the videos, mostly it is for myself. I sat down the other day and flipped through some old photobooks and read through some old journals. It is crazy to see where I have been what has happened and where I am now. God is indeed good.

How do you preserve your memories?
How do you preserve your videos?
What do you do with your pictures?

Wedding Photo Album

IT IS FINISHED.

This past weekend I successfully managed to catch up on our wedding photo album. This task for some reason was OVER THE TOP ridiculous for me to get finished. The photos came from a number of places: the two photographers who took legit pictures, the point & shoot I carried in my pocket, and a number of family and friend's camera, the picture quality varied.

I am THRILLED to be done with this book. Now to wait for a sweet sale and free shipping to get it ordered and in my hands to look through.

I LOVE shutterfly and creating photobooks.

Honeymoon Shutterfly Book

.

It has seriously been one of my goals this year to get completely caught up on my shutterfly books AND stay caught up. It has taken me a few months to make this happen, but I am ALMOST there. I have my 2014 one going which is ALMOST up to date (read - a month or so behind but doable to catch back up), my only one now that I have left to do is our wedding one. For some reason (we have a bunch of photos that I just don't want to sort through) I have been lacking the motivation to get that one done. But I fear the longer I let it go without doing it the less motivation I am going to have to actually get it done. Soooo I have committed to getting it done in May - by the end of May I WILL have our wedding photobook done. June is dedicated to getting our 2014 album caught back up and then my goal is to just stay on top of it. Getting behind stinks.

What do you do with all of your digital photos?
Do you have a preferred way of printing them/scrapbooking them?

I am jealous of those people who actually create big and real scrapbooks and spend hours doing it. I know for me it is shutterfly or nothing. I don't want to own all the stuff to create big books. The other thing I really like is how thin shutterfly books are which makes them SUPER easy to put on my book shelves and tons of them fit.

Welcoming a new decade

Today I enter a new decade of life. Good bye 20s and hello 30s.

My 20s were great. The highlight reel:
  • I earned my bachelor's degree
  • I earned my masters of divinity
  • I was ordained
  • I took my first call to full time ministry
  • I got married
  • I traveled the globe
    • met amazing people and heard their stories
    • smelled and tasted things beyond my wildest imagination
    • took thousands upon thousands (literally) of photographs
    • I learned more about myself
  • I ran my first half marathon (and have continued to run them)
  • I bought 2 houses and sold 1
  • I got my a golden retriever, Dakota
  • I got pregnant (yep, you read that right, Baby Marshall is arriving early August 2014)
Hopes and Dreams for my 30s: (in no particular order)
  • deliver a baby (eeeeeek)
  • raise a wonderful child who lives to love and serve God
  • Travel the globe
  • payoff Marc's student loans
  • finish the basement of our house
  • go on a sabbatical (after 7 years in ministry at my current ministry site I am allowed a 3 month sabbatical)
  • continue to run half marathons
    • and other races - and place in the top 3 of my age bracket for some race (yes it can be a small race) - now that I am out of the 18-29 age bracket (seriously, how is that age bracket fair to those of us in the upper part of that bracket) it seems like this goal may actually be do able
  • Grow in my photography skills
    • also in my photoshop/lightroom abilities
  • live in the moment more often
    • and live simply
  •  keep up on my shutterfly books - I love looking through them when they are finished
  • read lots and lots of books
  • crochet beautiful things
This list is only the beginning, as life always goes, we have NO CLUE what we are doing. However, I look forward to the years to come, good-bye twenties, you were good to me for sure. Hello, thirties, bring on the adventures.

"O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." (ELW pg 304)

Coast 2 Coast - runDisney

Part of my favorite thing after returning from a trip (yes, yes I know this one got WAYYYYY delayed) is creating the photobook. Here is from my runDisney Coast 2 Coast challenge. I ran the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon in Walt Disney World! LOVED IT!

Now to anxiously await the arrival of my photobook.

What do you do with your pictures after a trip?
Do you make a yearly photobook?

I am calling this weekend a success for sure! I love having introverted days where I can just cross stuff off a list and get it done! I did also have a camping trip with thirty or so people from my congregation. We had such a marvelous time despite the ridiculously HOT weather.

How was your weekend?
What did you do this weekend?

This Weekend

I just realized that this weekend is my introverted heaven.

Marc and I have had a couple of house guests living with us for the past three weeks, which has been marvelous for sure and without a doubt, however it does take some getting used to having two more adults living in our house. This weekend they are out of town for one reason or another and Marc is off to Madison, Wisconsin to volunteer and watch the IronMan race (which I am semi jealous that I don't get to go watch) - which leaves me home alone from Friday around noon till late Sunday night!!!! INTROVERTED HEAVEN.

Now, don't hear me wrong I don't totally have a free weekend, Friday night I do have a camp out with a bunch of church families and Sunday morning is booked full with church stuff, but Saturday from when I leave the camp out until Sunday when I show up to work - unless there is some type of an emergency - I wouldn't have to see another human being unless I wanted to.

I have begun a list of the things I hope to do:

  • Laundry
    • lights
    • darks
    • sheets
    • towels
    • rugs
  • deep clean the bathroom
    • bleach everything down
    • vinegar the tub (we have a jetted tub which we rarely actually take advantage of but they said to run a vinegar solution through the tub every so often to clean it out)
  • deep clean the living room
    • can you say doggy hair palooza
  • write some snail mail
    • I have four snail mail letters I am hoping to write
    • I LOVE sending snail mail
  • Baby Gifts
    • Apparently after the countless weddings I have attending in the past several years my friends are now moving onto babies rather than weddings
      • and I like to make baby gifts
    • I am hoping to make some:
      • pacifier clips
      • headbands
      • hats
      • fabric alphabet
      • appliqued onesies
  • Make freezer food
    • I want to freeze a couple batches of cookies just to have on hand for potlucks and other such things or when guests show up unexpectedly
    • I want to make some freezer burritos for quick meal options
    • I want to freeze up a couple of loaves of bread as well
      • banana, pumpkin, and who knows what else
  • shutterfly
    • finish Summer Ministries
    • catch up on 2013
    • start my wedding album
  • Run errands around town
    • deposit my paycheck
    • pay bills
    • pick up my wedding dress from the cleaners (which has been done for a couple weeks but I keep forgetting)
    • return some random things to Menards
      • parts of projects we bought too much of or didn't need
  • Watch movies while cleaning and doing projects
    • I have Anna Karenina coming on netflix
    • I am borrowing Les Mes from a friend
    • and I plan on going to the library Friday while I am out and about just to make sure I don't want something else too
    • I also have netflix live streaming (I love this feature)
  • I also am planning on going on a couple of good runs and getting a swim in
I realize this is a long list and some of it won't get accomplished, however it is my goal to see how much I can get done.

IT WILL BE AN AMAZING INTROVERTED WEEKEND!

What are you up to this weekend?
What are in your plans?
Do you like weekends to yourself or dread them?

Back in the saddle

Summer has been crazy to say the least.

  • I got married
  • took 5 trips for work
  • had my colleague on vacation for a month
  • put my house on the market
  • had a full ministry schedule
  • co-directed a camp
  • and a few more things here and there

I am thankful fall is around the corner (the kids are going back to school...whoooooop whooooooooop) and I am staying home for a while. I love being out and about. I love traveling for work and the opportunities it provides. I love my call. I also love being home and the routine of fall. I love knowing what is coming next and how things will flow. I love that people are around and the tourists are gone. I now am looking forward to the normalcy (as much as my job ever has) for the rest of the month. I think towards the end of the month I have several days of comp time that I am hoping to sneak away for a few days to go to Boundary Waters Canoe Area, but we'll see how that all plays out.

Our house is sort of going to be a revolving door for the next month and a half or so. We have Dakota's best friends, Gus and Luther, until Sunday. Oskar the wonderbernard comes on Saturday until the 21st of August. Then on August 20, Kevin, Martha, and Petzl (the black lab), are coming to stay until mid-September while life is in transition for them. It will be crazy but ridiculously fun month. Bring on dog-a-palooza and other such madness. Truthfully though we are blessed by having friends come and stay with us and we are thrilled to watch friend's dogs, we love them and Dakota thinks she has died and gone to heaven.

In the mean time we continue to have our house on the market - I am becoming less and less optimistic it is going to sell any time soon. Our showings have become much less frequent and we seem to be stuck at square one. Who knows. We continue to pray it sells and try to not look at houses online. I have found a couple that I am interested in but they have all sold and are now off the market. I have decided to not look at houses online again until our house at least gets an offer that we can even mildly consider.

Goals for the rest of August:
  1. Get ready for fall at work
  2. Go through 4 boxes in the attic
  3. Get spare bedroom cleaned out so our month long guests have plenty of space
  4. don't get behind on Wine and Dine Training
  5. Finish summer ministries photobook
  6. kayak 4 more times
  7. apply for my new passport
    • I find it ridiculous that you have to pay a crap ton to replace your passport - which is still valid. blah blah blah. I am over this name change crap and companies that make it ridiculously hard to change my name.
  8. clean out bedroom closet
    • Donate clothes that I don't need
    • move some of the excess things that don't necessarily belong in my closet to the attic space
     ***Bonus goals***
    • finish part 1 of our honeymoon photobook
    • crochet a hat
    • make a baby gift for a friend
    • write three letters just because I can
    • send a care package to someone for no reason
    • try a couple new recipes
    • finish a pinterest project I started last May

What is on your list of goals for the rest of the month?
Are you traveling anywhere fun the rest of August?
Do you use pinterest? love it or hate it?

2013 Yearly Goals - Check In

Here are my goals for 2013 in no particular order - below in blue is the updates with how I am doing on my goals:

  • Earn my Walt Disney Coast to Coast Medal
    • This will require me to complete two races, one in Disneyland and one in Disney World in the same calendar year. I will be running the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon in Disney World
    • I have finished the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland in California and I have registered for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon at Walt Disney World in Florida this coming November - I dare to say this is going to happen! Super excited
  • Learn how to fold fitted sheets
    • Seriously, I have tried, but haven't been committed to it- my fitted sheets always just look like crap when they are folded - more like balled up sheets even if I have tried to fold them nicely - youtube here I come
    • working on it!  I have been practicing weekly, I can't quite figure out how to get them so they actually lay flat - I have tried four different techniques on youtube - I have one that I like better than the others but it isn't perfect yet - still working on this one but definitely making progress
      • seriously think this is the most ridiculous yearly goal but it is seriously on my list
  • Get Married
    • DONE. WHHOOOOOP WHOOOOOP.
    • June 8, 2013 - at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brainerd Minnesota
  • Make a fruit pie from scratch
    • No real reason for this one other than I just want to do it
    • I have a date set with a few of the older ladies of the church I serve - and we are totally making a pie from scratch - seriously jazzed about this
  • Paint one of the bedrooms upstairs
    • I have begun the taping process to paint the room
  • Run 5 half marathons [I am tempted to say six because I think it would be sweet to say I averaged one every other month but that maybe too lofty of a goal]
    • I have Tinkerbell Half Marathon, Fargo Half Marathon, Fargo Mini Marathon, and Wine and Dine Half Marathon on the docket already - I'd like to add one in Minnesota to my list
    • Two down and three to go
    • I must find one more and actually register for it so I get on it
  • Finish going through all of my boxes
    • I haven't gone through all the boxes since I moved to Brainerd in June 2011, it's time to do some serious giving away
    • This project is nearly done - I only have a couple boxes left to go through
  • Organize my craft space in the loft
    • DONE. IT Looks AWESOME up there
  • Read 12 books for fun [I love reading but sometimes I get in a rut and do all my reading for work, which I don't totally mind, but I want to read for fun too] so far I am on track with reading one book per month for fun
    • Emma - Jane Austen
      • LOVED IT!
    • Red - Ted Dekker
      • Found this to be a marvelous book and it kept me a bit on the edge of my seat
    • Plain Truth - Jodi Piccoult
      • I love all of her books and this one did not let me down
    • 7 - Jen Hatmaker
      • EVERYONE should read this one. It is AMAZING!
    • The Hunger Games Book One by Suzanne Collins
      • I have read this before but wanted to reread it much slower
    • Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
      • I have read this one before but wanted to reread it much slower
    • Mocking Jay by Suzanne Collins
      • I have read this one before but wanted to reread it much slower - I realized at the end of this I read them through so ridiculously fast the first time just to see what happened I missed many details - I love this trilogy
  • Make my bed 90% of the time
    • I am not horrible at this one - I am probably currently at a solid 50% but would like to increase this goal - I don't want to go to 100% because seriously some days I really don't care - however I LOVE to crawl into a made bed
    • I am TOTALLY rocking this project right now! I can't even remember the last time I didn't make my bed - I LOVE LOVE LOVE crawling into a bed that has been made at night. Plus then my sheets aren't all over the place when I try to crawl in - Love crawling into a bed that has been made
  • Learn to to tunisian crochet
    • My friend Lindy has inspired me to do this - thanks Lindy
    • We are actually working a blanket with this style of crocheting in 2013 which will demand I learn 9 new stitches, I am jazzed and praying I can figure it out
    • I am a couple squares behind right now but not too far - I plan on catching up - I want to finish this project - I need to block my squares so they look less like little burritos
  • Run 500 miles this year
    • bike to work 30 times
      • I am biking to work quite frequently - I am certain I have passed this one by quite a ways - I quit keeping track somewhere around 22 and that was over a month ago and in the last week alone I have rode my bike to work at least 9 times.
    • swim 100 miles
      • yes I know these are loft goals - but why set low goals
      • according to my records I am at 56 miles so far - I feel good about being over half way done
    • I need to go back and add up my running miles - I know I was a ways behind for a while but now that it is BEAUTIFUL outside I have been picking up miles like crazy
  • Finish the stacks of projects that I have begun and have never gotten to for whatever reason - and if I decide I am not going to ever finish them then I need to disassemble what can be disassembled and move on - no reason to have all these half finished projects
    • slowly but surely this is happening believe it or not - although I suppose I could use a kick in the butt to get this goal done a little quicker
  • Settle into married life
    • or begin to... really this goal is all about making the transition to married life intentional
    • this is beginning - it is interesting for sure
  • Make a quilt
    • it has been way too long since I have made one
    • I have fabric and design picked now to just sit down and do it
  • Finish the three clergy stoles I have started
    • one done two to go
  • Shoot over 250 pictures a month on my Nikon D60
    • I LOVE this camera but I get lazy and don't take it out to take the photos I should, I really do want to improve as a photographer, so I must practice
    • I am probably about where I need to be - I am thinking I have averaged about that so far in pictures - this has been a fun challenge - I am learning quite a bit about my camera and how to use it (about time eh?!) I am debating trying to find some class online to help teach me more about my camera and the settings
  • Catch up on photobooks
    • yeah, I am way behind, finish 2011, 2012, Summer 2012 Mission Trips book
      • 2011 - DONE
      • Summer 2012 Mission Trip book - DONE
      • 2012 - DONE
    • update 2013 photobook monthly
      • I am currently behind, my book is up to date through mid-May, so I am considering this a success and have the intention of catching that up shortly
    • Create and Finish Summer 2013 Ministry book (finish before the end of the year)
      • I have my book all set up with several categories: Summer Stretch, VBS, Middle School Mission Trip, High School Mission Trip, and Operation Sandwich
      • I have updated the first few weeks of summer stretch and that is all up to date - I figure if I do it piece by piece it will be helpful and not nearly as overwhelming as doing it all at the same time
    • Create and finish a wedding photobook (finish before the end of the year)
      • I have the design picked out and have begun uploading photos - I have all my pictures uploaded (yes, I carried my own camera on my wedding day) and have bee uploading pictures as people have given them to me
      • We had Marc's uncle and a dear friend of ours take pictures and our dear friend already has given us five disks of pictures (THEY ARE AMAZING) and those are uploaded we are waiting on the pictures from Marc's uncle
      • Serveral cousins have emailed me saying they have pictures and will be emailing them to me as soon as they get them uploaded to their computers
      • I LOVE looking through the pictures as they come in - I must make an album on facebook soon
    • Order 366 in 2012 photo book
      • DONE and it is soooooooooooo much fun! I LOVE IT! Seriously. I hope to do another photo a day book sometime
    • When books are finished order: 2011, 2012, Summer 2012 Mission Trip book
      • 2011 - Ordered and on my shelves
      • Summer 2012 Mission Trip Book - Ordered and on my shelves
      • 2012 - Ordered and on my shelves

I LOVE my chacos and wear them a TON!
Three:
Shutterfly Books

I wear this fleece more than I care to admit
I LOVE IT

Ordination Anniversary

Today I sit back and remember this day with great humility, I am thankful for the call to ordained ministry and I am humbled to serve in full time paid ministry. It is an honor and a joy, I give God thanks and praise for all the ways in which I have been led and guided and look forward to the future. I am posting a copy of my ordination photobook today. The video tape never got started to record the service, so I created this semi-lengthy photobook to capture and help me remember the day and the details of the day.

Hope you enjoy a glimpse into my ordination day.

Thanks be to God for the call to ordained ministry.

Disney on the brain

Sarah & Merida
I find myself with Walt Disney World on my brain a lot lately. As I have begun to prepare for the Walt Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon I find myself thinking about past memories of Disney and dreaming about this upcoming trip and even trips to come.

Yesterday, I watched Princess Merida become an official Disney princess, what I wouldn't have given to be there among that crowd. My personal favorite Disney princesses are: Mulan (hands down top of my list), Merida, who is closely followed by Tiana. Another one of my favorite characters is Jesse from Toy Story. While not a princess she also has a warm place in my heart for one reason or another. I also do have an appreciation for the classics as well. I have a book on shutterfly in progress, with my friend Suz, and we are on a mission to get our pictures with as many characters as we can and we are creating one big book of only photos with characters. We also have a rule that we don't wait in any line that we think will be longer than about seven minutes to ten minutes. The only time we have broken this rule is after we ran the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland last January and we desperately wanted our pictures with our medals with Tink.

Suz &  I at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
in Magic Kingdom
I have found myself thinking about Disney as I am running and swimming as well as spacing out at work (let's be honest we all space out from time to time at work). My mind has been floating between the delicious restaurants, the different parks, the characters, the fireworks shows, illuminations, the rides, and the experience as a whole.

I am a huge advocate for runDisney! I love the different runDisney events and on my bucket list is to get a complete set of all the half marathon medals. Also if I ever decide that I am crazy enough to earn a full marathon medal you can bet it will be a runDisney medal! I love the runDisney experience and the ways in which they offer such an outstanding experience. I recommend runDisney events to everyone I talk to end end up talking about running to (seriously most conversations seem to revolve around running to some degree or another).

Who is your favorite Disney princess?
Who is your favorite Disney character?
Do you runDisney?
What is your favorite runDisney event so far?

iPad

Sad Story: my laptop (Gladys - I named her in the midst of thesis writing in undergrad - because I was spending so much time with her and somehow it stuck - which makes me giggle now) - is from my sophomore year of college (2004) - she is getting old in the computer world, but she still works - her major default is her battery life is less than stellar and so any time I want to use her not plugged in I only have about an hour before the battery will be dead - she runs a little slow - but still runs well - and I love her - I know all the short cuts on my trust macbook, I know where things are saved, what programs she has, and her quirks. I am not ready to replace her (although I have started saving up for a new one - I haven't told Gladys this yet though - I don't want to be caught computerless and have no funds to get a new one).

True Story: I am cheap. I don't like to spend money on frivolous things (like a new computer when Gladys works just fine). My uncle every year for Christmas gives my brother and I $100 in Best Buy Gift Cards, there have been years in which I have gone out and bought things such as movies, video games, kindle gift cards, camera memory cards, camera equipment, etc. and in my later years I have learned the joys of saving up my gift cards and getting something even more wonderful, several years back I bought my wii with said gift cards (I LOVE my wii - games, amazon prime, and netflix). The past few years I have just been hording my gift cards questioning what I would buy with them, slightly debating a computer, but knowing that would take me a lot of years to get enough gift cards to get a new macbook, this year after we got our gift cards, it struck me, I was going to buy a iPad. This would extend the life of Gladys because I could use Gladys for certain things and my iPad would cover many needs that Gladys was starting to slack on. So I bought an iPad - I named her Ethel (sounded like a name of someone who would be good friends with Gladys).
